I ordered the pack containing two sizes of the net bags because I have a small gooseberry bush and a redcurrant which is quite a bit larger. I am hoping that the netting will stop sawfly from getting at the gooseberry because they've stripped all the leaves from it for the last two years, and to keep the blackbirds from eating all the berries from the redcurrant.The advantages are that birds can't get caught up in this fine netting. With the gooseberry, it's getting the timing right. The flowers need to be pollinated first, so I think it's best to wait for the bees to do their work, and then get these covers on early in the season as soon as the bushes have started to set fruit.I used a similar design of fleece bags to cover plants during the winter and found that the bags with zips were the quickest and easiest to put over the plant. You don't have to struggle to bend branches into the bag, as it wraps around and then you zip it up. I was pleased that these netting bags have zips for that reason. There are pull cords at the bottom and a toggle to keep them tight. This stops anything from getting in from underneath. Hopefully those pesky sawfly! The netting is super fine and it's tough. There will be no issues with the bushes getting enough sunlight and they can breathe, and water can get through them too.They're ideal for my needs, but as it's early March and the bushes don't have any leaves, I can't use them just yet. However, I am prepared, and I certainly wasn't last summer. One day I wondered why the gooseberry was leafless and there were no berries on the redcurrant! I am fully expecting the bags to work as planned. They seem robust so if they do protect the bushes, I can use them again for several seasons to come.

I got these to try and keep the sawfly away from my gooseberry plants. Each year the poor things get stripped completely. It's too early to tell yet if they will work better than throwing and old net curtain over the plants...watch this space.

I am reviewing Garden Netting, RIFNY 1.2x1.78m Garden Mesh Bird Netting for Tree with Zipper and Drawstring, Fruit Tree Netting Outdoor Mosquito Net Cover Protector Plant from Animals Insect (White, 2 PCS)This is useful but you need to think about why you want to use it and if it suits your needs. The large net is pretty flimsy and there's a generous zip. The packaging says it protects your plants from rodents, that's laughable. It won't. They will quickly bite through the fabric.I'm going to use it to protect my huge perennial kale plants from cabbage white butterflies that lay their eggs on the leaves. That's the perfect use for this. But whatever you do don't use this to cover flowering fruit trees becuase you will prevent the pollinators reaching the flowers and you won't get any fruit!
